I watched AKA last night, it makes me fucking sick!!! There is something seriously wrong with this country. Don't we have more important things to worry about than Tommy Chong? This isn't a free country anymore. All I can hope is that Obama helps to change these ridiculous laws about pot. Let's put someone in jail for life for a 1/2 oz of pot--real fucking smart. kokobaboko: Secondly, even if the prison industry makes a profit, how much of that profit goes to the government? More prisons these days are privately owned, how much money is left after the owner of the company gets his cut? From what is left, subtract what the government spends on the drug war, including the DEA's entire budget, cops' salaries, cruisers and additional costs. The truth is that the government wastes more money on the drug war than it gets back.

kokobaboko: How do you know how much money a tax on marijuana would generate? It would depend on if it was an ordinary sales tax or a high tax like they have on cigarettes. Pot is the most popular drug that is currently illegal. Legalization and regulation would make it more readily available and safer to go get, thereby increasing its use among people who don't want to the ghetto to make a pickup.
