but swat doesn't order itself out, right? so stay safe & be safe, srt. glad you made it back home safely.

to put it more simply (and hoping not to start argument, because), swat is increasingly being used (to justify their existance & expense imho) when older, safer tactics woulda worked just fine. nappropriate escalation of force to often ends in unnecessary casualties - on civilian side. the perp may be a lowlife with a shitload of warrants, but his old lady calling 911 cuz he's drunk and won't let her leave the house shouldn't result in a fatality. yet, that kinda shit is happening more & more.

i don't think i wanna know if you're comparing special ops roe with swat. the 'always striving to improve our product/training' depends entirely on WHO & WHERE you're talking about. whether it's sas or swat from 5 agencies at columbine hs, the fuck up rate is huge in urban/civilan environs - the kind the media & public can't miss knowing about, unfortunately.

Yea, it can be easy to get trigger happy, but that is why our special operations train the way they do, to avoid mistakes that can cause harm to non-coms, as well as members of their team. This is war, and unfortunately, shit happens. I agree with swat, I am former military and currently on a police response unit, and we are constantly working to adapt tactics to the changing world around us.

i'm mostly with you but the 'surprise-counter-surprise' can get out of hand & become trigger happy - especially in urban environments. swat teams are starting to learn that their training & terrain don't always jive. |
